Outcome:
We worked with Homma over a period of months to develop a system of interlocked logos that would represent both Homma’s playfulness and expertise.
Over a span of two months, we met with owners DeAnna Cooper and Jessica Brent to dial in every aspect of an enlivened brand for Homma. They made it clear that the new brand required cuteness, vintage vibes, and attention to detail, and should reflect the ethos of the birthday party: that to give a party to someone is an act of community-based care. We had to pack a sense of that loving care into the brand.
We focused on communicating Homma’s level of expertise in planning luxury outdoor events while creating new assets that focused on adaptability and whimsy. The bell tent, a nod to the brand’s lineage as a company providing birthday parties and slumber parties, serves as an anchor that visually places the brand outdoors, while optional elements, like balloons and lanterns, allow for varying presentations.
Used on signs, proposals, and business cards, the bell tent—a staple of Homma’s value proposition—became a stand-in for all the services Homma provides.
In addition to the logo, we also drew a new typeface for the brand by hand. Inspired by the utilitarian shapes found around a campsite, the font is geometric, yet serene. As a logotype, the typeface can be configured and adapted in multiple ways, like any good camp tool should be.
Challenge:
The bottom line– Homma wanted to go bigger.
The tent-party-and-rental-service company Homma Camp Co. needed a brand update to help them reach higher-impact clients.
The outdoorsy company cut its teeth renting out luxury tents for backyard birthdays and slumber parties. They’d bring out a photogenic tent, decorate it with pillows and lights, maybe cater a meal, and tear it all down at the end: a one-stop shop for outdoor parties. As an event equipment rental company, they were doing well.
But while Homma’s small events were easy to pull off, they found that, over time, too many were needed to keep the lights on. They refined the vision: renting high quantities of the same product to high-end weddings and festivals would allow the company to move lots of tents in a short time for a more stable revenue stream. To pull it off, Homma needed a bigger, more expansive tent to house their brand and their business.
